Letter from Lauren Zabel, Chair

I am so thrilled to be telling you about Santa Barbaraʼs Israeli Palestinian Film Festival! This festival, from the start, has been dedicated to showcasing the people, images, and stories of these two societies who share a common land and creating a cultural platform to further awareness and challenge conventions.

Now in our third year, our 2009 dates have been set for May 4th through May 14th. I can say, without a doubt, we have a stellar line-up for the Santa Barbara community, easily surpassing previous years. Many fantastic films will be shown, including Golden Globe winner, Waltz with Bashir, in conjunction with UCSBʼs Arts & Lectures, and the festival will culminate with a beautiful lagoon-side twilight dinner & screening of Driving to Zigzigland at UCSBʼs Storke Lagoon featuring director, Nicole Ballivian. These are, of course, only two of nearly a dozen films included in this yearʼs festival.

To make all of this happen, we ask for a donation to our festival. We feel strongly that the future of this festival will help to foster a new spirit of understanding. All of us, volunteers and donors, see this festival as the beginning of change.

Enclosed please find information about sponsorship opportunities for this yearʼs IPFF.  As a student-run festival with limited resources we are relying on the support of our community to make this yearʼs festival a reality.

Please check out our website for more of an insight of who we are, what we stand for, and more details about this yearʼs festival!

Sincerely,

Lauren Zabel, Chair
